State Parliament Excursion
On a sunny Monday morning a very excited Stage 3 went on a trip to the amazing New South Wales State Parliament, it took a while but it was most definitely worth it.
Before they left for their expedition there was a very slow roll call. Finally the restless students were bustling onto the bus for the long trip to Circular Quay. Most students passed the time by playing games and talking.
After the bus stopped they all stumbled off the crammed automobile and walked briskly to the amazing Botanical Gardens where the unsuspecting students almost walked into a tv shoot! Mrs Bowen excitedly asked if they could be in the show. Sadly, she was turned down as it was a television show based years ago and they didn’t exactly look like they were students from the 1950s and so they continued their excursion.
After a short lunch and toilet break and the children headed off to State Parliament!
After having their precious bags scanned and stored in a trolley they were led to an amazing leaf green room called the Legislative Assembly where they all had a short debate about extended school hours. Then they quickly went to the Legislative Council to continue the debate.
After collecting their luggage they hopped onto the bus and started their trip home.
It was an amazing day!

Picnic Point High School Transition
15 students from Year 6 at Padstow Park Public School will be attending Picnic Point High School in 2013. In order to assist with their transition to high school a program called ‘Helping Hands’ is being implemented.
Padstow Park students attended their first day of lessons at Picnic Point High School on 29th August and had lots of fun. Here are some photos taken during a science lesson about static electricity. Have a look at their hair!

Ancient Olympics Report
Long, long ago in a world far, far away lived a handful of self-reliant cities which are now known as Greece. Greece’s religion belonged to the chief god Zeus and the people of Greece decided to honour their many gods by commencing their first Olympic Games.
Greece’s first recorded Olympic Games took place in 776 BC. The games only came around every four years and most of the events revolved around fighting and track and field. They were; discuss, running, equestrian, pankration, shot-put, wrestling and boxing.
In the Olympics there were a number of ceremonies such as; the parade of flags, the claiming of the games to be open, the Olympic flag raised, doves released as a symbol of peace and Olympic oath taken by athletes.
The games were very rewarding to the winner and the victor received a Loral wreath which symbolised long life and great wealth.
After all the years the games went on they were eventually ceased by a man called Theodosius the first which accused the Zeus of being a pagan god and legally abolished the games because of this. The ancient games ended in 394 AD.
The Modern Olympics started in 1896 as a symbol of peace to prevent countries from fighting and causing war and make countries compete instead. The modern Olympic Games are continuing to this very day.

Number Groups
This year Stage 3 at Padstow Park Public School formed 'Number Groups'. These groups are graded so that students' individual learning needs can be met with suitable learning activities. These groups have now been running for over a term and we are very pleased with the progress students are making in the 'Number' strand of Mathematics. Keep working hard Stage 3!
